When it comes to healthy eating, people can be lazy. And with laziness often comes poor health choices, such as eating fast food, junk food, and other poor selections. But if you're less than motivated to cook, you can still make the right choices and get the nutrition you need, without a whole lot of effort.
It doesn't take any extra time to buy a bag of baby carrots or snow peas than it does a bag of chips, and there is no extra work needed to pick up a box of oranges instead of a box of cookies. Eating fruit like apples or bananas doesn't take any preparation, unless you consider the time it takes to peel the banana, and the health benefits are monumental if you compare them against the empty calories you get from chips, cookies and crackers.
Of course in other countries people don't worry as much about the junk food, usually because they don't have those options. In places like South America, to grab a snack like a banana, you can just pull it off of a banana tree. But other cultures go a step further and will the whole of the plant, such as the banana tree leaf, and use it in healthy cooking, such as in rice dishes. They'll even utilize the entire plant, such as the red banana tree, and decorate their homes with their beautiful colors.
But to get back on the health food track, you should really consider your selections when you're shopping for food. Don't get fooled by packages and labels, and stick to what's grown from the ground and what comes off of trees. After a while, you might feel a little less lethargic, and find yourself cooking better for yourself. |
